  • About All the Single Kitties

    All the Single Kitties Cat Cafe is a small, woman-owned business that opened in November 2022. As of our 1-year anniversary, we have found forever homes for almost 100 cats. Our mission is to improve the lives of homeless cats until they are adopted. We partner with a local rescue who saves cats within the state of Connecticut from abandonment, abuse, and neglect. Our café provides a sanctuary for these cats to decompress and thrive until they find their forever homes. It’s no secret that spending time with animals brings joy and peace into our lives and reduces stress. At our café, guests can visit with our adoptable cats in a relaxed and fun environment. They may choose to adopt a cat, or just to come for the therapeutic benefit of spending quality time with cats. Our goal is simple: to make cats and people very happy.

    Position summary

    Our Ideal Candidate

    You really love cats, have lots of energy, and are great with people. The store hosts are the heart and soul of All the Single Kitties. They are the bridge connecting our cats with our guests. You will greet them as they enter, go over the rules, and oversee their interaction with the cats in the kitty lounge. Your goal is to make sure that each guest is having a great kitty lounge experience. You will spend time getting to know each cat individually so that you can help guests interact with them. You must be comfortable with cats being together in a community setting. Cats and people can be unpredictable, especially when they are together. You possess problem solving skills for unexpected situations that can arise. You have a positive attitude and are solution oriented. You will work hard and multi-task throughout the day. This job entails a lot more than just hanging out with cats, although that is a perk!

    Responsibilities

    ● Greet guests as they enter the cat café.

    ● Check guests in and make sure they have their required forms signed properly. Offer food, beverage and merchandise purchases to guests. Process payments through POS.

    ● Communicate the café rules clearly and concisely and answer any questions. Make sure guests fully understand and agree to the rules before they enter the kitty lounge.

    ● Oversee the guest experience in the kitty lounge while also making sure that the well-being of each cat is met.

    ● Engage with the customers about the cats, the business, and the adoption process.

    ● Offer to take pictures of guests interacting with the cats.

    ● Throughout the shift: Organize and clean as needed. Make sure cats’ bios on the wall and in the book are up to date. When slow, spend time socializing with the cats, especially the shyer ones.

    ● Deep clean litter boxes as needed throughout the shift.

    ● Feed cats and replenish water as needed.

    ● Observe and monitor cats and report any concerning behavior and/or medical issues to the owner and rescue partner promptly.

    ● Opening the store: Make sure the cats and the café are ready for guests. Make sure café is ready for guests and looks and smells good. Clean as needed prior to opening. Turn on water fountain; change water as needed. Put sign and dog water bowl out on sidewalk. Make sure the iPads and POS are ready. Turn SONOS on.

    ● Closing the store: Clean up: empty trash, wipe down tables and counters, vacuum the café and foyer. Bring sign and water bowl in. Turn SONOS off. Take waivers and cash from the front and put in back office. Put away iPads and POS. Make sure cats are accounted for and in their private space. Lights off, doors locked.

    Qualifications

    ● Prior customer service experience is required.

    ● Candidates with prior animal care employment and/or volunteer experience will be given priority consideration.

    ● Must have experience with cats; either owning or working with them. Must be experienced and comfortable handling cats.

    ● Cats and people can be unpredictable. Must be able to handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently.

    ● Ability to and desire to create positive guest experiences.

    ● Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team.

    ● Ability to multitask.

    ● Solution oriented.

    ● Passion for animal welfare.

    ● Technological proficiency. Familiarity with Shopify POS is a huge plus.

    Job Type

    Per Diem Position – Must be available to work: Wednesday – Sunday. Candidate will be trained and scheduled to fill in as needed. There is future potential for a regular schedule with more hours.

    You obviously love cats! You are the behind-the-scenes caregiver to our cats. You play an essential role in our cats’ overall health and well-being. You have affection for animals and are concerned for their welfare. You have experience handling cats and are comfortable with all aspects of their care. You understand that a shelter setting with cats from all different backgrounds can sometimes cause stress in the cats, and your goal is to make them as comfortable as possible to minimize their stress. You understand cats can take time to adapt to new settings and that each cat acclimates at their own pace. You are solution oriented. You are prepared to handle unexpected situations in a calm and efficient way. You have the ability and initiative to work with minimal supervision and direction.

    Responsibilities

    ● Groom cats, including brushing and nail clipping.

    ● Feed cats and make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water.

    ● Thoroughly clean litter boxes each shift. Deep cleaning/sanitizing litter boxes is done on a regularly scheduled basis that may occur during your shift.

    ● Observe and monitor any concerning behavior and medical issues and report to the owner and rescue partner promptly. Be available and prepared to transport cats to urgent care/ER if an emergency occurs during your shift.

    ● Clean the counter surfaces and sweep floors after each shift. Take out garbage.

    ● Make sure that the cat food, litter, medications, cleaning supplies, grooming supplies, etc. are adequately stocked. Add to re-order list when running low.

    ● Report in a caregiver’s log after each shift. Communicate concerns and information about the cats in caregiver’s group chat.

    ● Administer medications as prescribed, and record in medications journal.

    ● Spend time providing companionship to help socialize the cats.

    Qualifications

    • Prior animal care experience is a requirement. Familiarity with a shelter or rescue environment is a plus. The ideal candidate has vet tech experience.

    • Ability to work independently.

    • Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.

    Job Type

    Per diem position to start with the potential for regular schedule with more hours. Must have scheduling flexibility including availability to work weekends and holidays. Hours are somewhat flexible but must be available for approximately 2 hours each shift: morning between 7-10am; evening between 5-8pm.
